When we launched the Monthly Box, the internal pitch was half-serious: 'make the smallest possible product with the largest possible meaning.' Three years and 14,000 boxes later, it's still our highest-NPS line.
Constraint is the product
A monthly box forces us to pick four things we genuinely believe in. Not forty. Not four hundred. That's the feature — it filters out the noise on behalf of the customer, because we've done the filtering for them.
Our customers don't subscribe for the 12% discount. They subscribe because 'four good things a month' is a better editorial contract than 'an unlimited online shop.'
How we plan a year ahead
- February each year, we lock the theme for the next twelve months.
- Each month gets a lead item (~50% of the box value) and three supporting items.
- We try to ensure one digital good per quarter — it keeps the ratio balanced.
- Final composition signs off ten weeks before the ship date.
The best subscription products feel like letters from a friend with better taste than you. Ours tries to read that way.
